How To Wear Loafers in 2024
It goes without saying that we have been loafers advocates from the beginning of time. They have been heroes in our range from the very beginning of AQUILA, influenced by our Italian heritage and love of dress shoes.

Our classic loafer styles, like our Alberto Penny Loafers, are best sellers for a reason. Their wearability and nod to tradition allow them to be reached for year after year, and still are as relevant today as they have been for the last 50 years.
However, in 2024, a new generation of loafer-wearers have come on the scene. Born from the sneaker explosion of the past few years, these men have started to replace their branded kicks for statement loafers, pairing them with boxy silhouettes and socks.
So whatever camp you fall in this season, be it ultra-traditional or new age cool, we have a pair of loafers for you to spend your days (and nights in).
What is that old saying - if it ain't broke, don't fix it? Loafers have been the pinnacle of Italian cool for decades, celebrating an effortless sophistication that is synonymous with the region. So what is the traditional formula for wearing loafers? As a dress shoe, a classic pair of loafers, be it a tassel or horsebit loafer, is worn with tailoring.
We wear our Alberto Loafers with cotton or linen suiting in the summer, and woollen suiting or separates in the winter. Our Benito Loafers is a great option to dress up a smart shirt/chino's combo. Visable socks can be optional, particularly in the warmer months (however we always suggest invisable socks to keep your loafers fresh).
If you are on the pulse of menswear trends like we are, it is obvious that loafers are quickly bypassing sneakers as the shoe of the season. While we love to pay homage to tradition, we are loving experimenting with the new loafer shapes and styling becoming popular here and abroad.
So what do these new loafers look like, and how do we incorporate them into our wardrobes?
Let's start with, what do these new loafers look like? Take a look at styles like the Mensa or Dartmouth to start - styles that are a little rounder in the toe and thicker in the rand than the clean and classic loafers you have come to love. These styles look best with this new way of styling loafers - pair with wider leg pants (even jeans), and a white or black sock.
