Can You Wear Loafers With Socks?
While the traditionalists have always rocked a pair of socks with a classic horsebit, it wasn't uncommon in the last few years to see a bare ankle or two above a tassel or penny loafer. But this season, the concensus is in, and it is socks with loafers all the way.
The next question - what socks should you wear with loafers? We promise the answer is easier than you think.
The Initiation: The Tonal Sock
The easiest way to embrace the socks & loafers combo is with a pair of socks that match, or closely match the colour of your loafers. A chunky soled Mensa, like below, look great balanced with a tonal black cotton sock.
This works especially well when the dress code calls for something a little more formal. Getting married in a pair of patent loafers? A really beautiful pair of black dress socks is what will tie the whole look together.

The Step Up: The White Sock
Ready to graduate from the blacks and greys to something with a little more of a pop? Lean into the style's heritage and pair your loafers with a white or grey sock. A much more casual alternative to their dark counterparts, they add a laidback edge to a pair of lightweight trousers or blue denim.
We love how a really traditional pair of Newry's can be given a streetwear edge with a pair of jeans and a grey cotton sock, or how the dressed up Dartmouth's in Brown can look perfectly in place with a cap and bomber when paired with a white crew sock.

The POP: The Bright Sock
For the brave of heart, fun can be had when pairing a bold sock with a loafer. Avoid anything too novelty (keep those avocadoes or superhero's away from public view), and ensure your pant just hits the top of the loafer when you stand so just a flash of colour is in display when you stroll around town.
